My company in the DR

I was recently back in the Dominican Republic and it felt nice to visit. It is exactly two years ago now that I met with my business partner and a lawyer in Santo Domingo. Still we have not obtained the final dissolution of the old company I had, although the last tax return was filed several years ago. I still have to report monthly the Itbis report which is like a VAT in English or Moms in Danish. It is just reported in zero as there is no activity. The other company – a local Dominican Republic company Boyter Island SRL I have continued with my partner and she runs her real estate brokerage “Inmobiliaria Sarasota” in the company.

We have found a system around it now where I help her with a few things around her website and digital marketing and she helps me with administrative issues with the authorities, lawyer and tax accountant. I don’t decide anymore which lawyer or tax accountant to work with. She is much better at that anyway as a Dominican. She has many contacts that are lawyers and she has found her own tax accountant. As a foreigner I could never have found it to the costs that she does.

I leave the option open to use the company for outsourcing work, related to my content creation activity, where again she would take care of the administrative side of it with the freelancers. I plan to go again to the Dominican Republic to the capital Santo Domingo and to Las Terrenas from January to March. Which I will be writing about. This year I worked on a newsletter as an extension of my blog and I am now looking at e-books as an extension of the newsletter.
