It takes months to just get into reasonable shape but only a few weeks to get out of shape again. My brief stay in Miami didn’t help.

After being almost three weeks in the Dominican Republic I have not exercised as consistently as I did the last 5 months prior since September. And any attempt at dieting went out the window for now. During a short three-day stay in Miami I gave it up completely.

I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott at the airport which made it easy at arrival and leaving using the hotel’s free shuttle service to and from the airport. Turned out to be an excellent decision especially on arrival as I waited 2–3 hours in the queue at immigration. I almost fainted. The immigration officer told me that happens all the time. Also taking the shuttle for my flight at noon today I didn’t have to get up very early. There are three different Marriotts together and the shuttle leaves every 15 minutes.

Adjacent to the hotel there was a Champions restaurant. Strange concept. A sports bar theme with incredibly unhealthy food. The Cuban pork sandwich was tasty though. And of course I had to have fries and a pepsi cola with it and refills. The breakfast was ok and could be healthy with oatmeal and fruits. I didn’t have to get the scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. My attempt at dieting will be my biggest challenge for sure.

I was in Miami taking care of some practical stuff around a condo I had there and finishing some banking. I met with a very professional and experienced real estate agent taking Uber into Downtown-Brickell and spent a day around there where I have been many times. Last time was in March 2020 just when the pandemic started unfolding. I was staying in my condo between two tenants. I got back to the Dominican Republic just before they closed the border. It is more than 5 years ago now that I have stayed at my condo, for a couple of weeks or a couple of months. So closing this chapter.

I managed to exercise swimming one time during my stay. Not a particularly exciting hotel and pool. A little different atmosphere that I am used to with noise from the highway just next to, airplanes starting and landing and constantly police sirens. The big city. The hotel served the purpose for this business trip of sorts.
